Tracy + Frank Engaged!

Before each engagement session, we go through a planning process with our couples to make sure we're going to come away with images that reflect them.  There is a lot of back and forth between us to get the locations, outfits, all those details just right.  Adm and I pride ourselves on how well we plan so that we can do a good job responding to all the little things that can go wrong on engagement shoots and even wedding days.

On the day of Tracy and Frank's engagement, our plan had to compete with reality. The erratic winds of the Marin Headlands caused us to abandon the beach and head back across the bridge.   After three stops in the Presidio we were back on track and scurried our way through downtown, chasing the light so we could hit Potrero Hill as the sun went down.  We may have broken some traffic laws, but as you can see above, we made it just in time.  Tracy and Frank are getting married this summer and if the care and thoughtfulness that went into their engagement session is any indication of the wedding to come, I know we're in for a real treat!

Winnie + Wallen in Oakland, Calif.

I don't know if I have made this clear before or not, but I am a total sucker for dogs.  Oh wait, of course I have!  So, when I found out that Winnie and Wallen planned for their two Corgi pups to make an appearance for their portraits I was a little bit excited. Why wouldn't you have the furry members of your family take part in your big day?

Winnie and Wallen had their wedding at the Mills College Chapel in Oakland, and we photographed their portraits among the beautiful buildings and trees on campus.  Later, we snuck them away from their reception at East Ocean in Alameda for some sunset portraits along the water looking out to San Francisco.  Congratulations, Winnie and Wallen!!!

Hillary and Matt are having a baby!!

Gosh, remember these two from when we first started our blog and photographing weddings back in 2009??  Time flies and they're now expecting Baby Stevens, who is due this Wednesday!  We just love being able to document all of these big deal events for our couples plus we love that we get to stay in touch with everybody!  Send Hillary and Matt lots and lots of smooth delivery vibes this week, OK?!!

Junie + Eddie Engagement

Why is it that some of our most memorable engagement sessions always include some kind of injury?  Well, we can add Junie and Eddie's session to that list as Adm came away from the shoot with a big lump and bruise on his forehead.  If you check out the ice cream photos at the bottom of this post, you'll notice that one is from a super high angle -  that would be me shooting while on top of Adm's shoulders.  Pretty impressive, eh?  Unfortunately for Adm, during my climb to the top, I forgot to hold onto my cameras which ended up conking him in the head.  Oops.  Luckily, I was able to somewhat crawl my way out of the doghouse by immediately treating it with a delicious ice cream cone.

But back to Junie and Eddie... these two were game for anything and total pros at having their picture taken.  Their wedding is coming up soon in November and we can't wait to see them get married in a round barn.  Yes, a round barn!  It's one of two completely round barns in the entire state and was built in 1891.  Be sure to check back in a couple of months to see that shebang on the blog!

Angela + Brett Orinda, CA

Good morning blog world!  We had a really fun shooting weekend - a San Francisco engagement and gorgeous wedding in Carmel, and hope you all had a super Labor Day weekend too!  To ease back into the work week, we're sharing Angela and Brett's "fairytale casual" wedding!

What is fairytale casual you may wonder?  Well, it's what Angela and Brett instructed their guests to wear, and while it's open to interpretation, one thing that's for certain is that it leads to a whole lot of fun.  Angela and Brett know how to have a good time, and when you bring together some wizards, Aladdin, Jasmin, steampunk inspired  Burning Man costumes, and grown men with butterfly wings running around it's guaranteed to be a crazy party.

These two were married atop the hill in Brett's parents' backyard in Orinda.  Surrounded by tall pines and food and drink carts scattered throughout the property, guests dined on fresh oysters, paella, home brew and creme brรปlรฉe.  Of all the weddings that Adm and I have photographed together, this one has to be the most enchanting.  Thank you, Angela and Brett, for marching to the beat of your own drum.

Vandeep + Ashminder in El Sobrante, CA

What would you say if your photographer took her shoes off while photographing your wedding ceremony?  If you follow my blog, you already know I love learning about cultures I haven't experienced before.  When the opportunity arose for me to second shoot a Sikh wedding, I jumped at the chance.  I have to thank Duke for bringing me along to help him photograph Vandeep and Ashminder's wedding at Gurdwara Sahib in El Sobrante.  It was an amazing experience and a total color explosion!  Because of the gorgeous fabrics and colors the women and men are wearing, I kept all of the photos in color.  And yes, I photographed the ceremony without shoes because everyone took their shoes off before entering the Sikh center.  You can check out Duke's amazing portfolio here.
