It was such a treat photographing Emily and Dave's wedding at the Richard Nixon Library in Yorba Linda. Emily and Dave are both Tar Heels and Emily played softball too, and although we weren't on the team at the same time, we're still part of one big Carolina softball family. You couldn't have asked for a more perfect Bay Area day for Katie and Nick's wedding last summer. Everything took place at Nick's parents' home, and the views of the Bay were spectacular all day long, but then, the sun went down, and somehow it became even more breathtaking. Situated above the twinkling lights of Oakland and San Francisco, it was as if Katie and Nick and their guests were in their own dream world, dancing above the city, far away from reality. Actually, these two seemed to be in their own world throughout - even though they have been together since they were 15, they couldn't keep their eyes off one another all night.

Michele and Devin's story begins with a simple disagreement between Devin's best friend Brian and Michele's little sister Tania. Because she was one of Brian's students, Tania had to listen to him talk everyday about how his friend, Devin, was the best person ever. But Tania knew from experience that her sister, Michele, was the best person ever. Seeing that it was their duty to settle the argument, Brian and Tania set up Michele and Devin on a date. And since we had the honor to photograph Michele and Devin's wedding, I guess they've now earned the title of "best couple ever."
These two were married in September in Livermore and then partied the night away in San Ramon. Normally, the best weather in the Bay Area is during September, it's the height of our summer. But on their day, it poured. Michele and Devin handled the rain like champs, and by the ceremony's end, the sun was out and shining. We loved photographing Michele and Devin not only because they were super sweet and easy to be around, but they also included their pup Moose for a number of photos. Congratulations you two!

If I had to choose one place in Golden Gate Park that feels as if you've stepped into a magical story book garden it would be the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers. Add a room full of butterflies emerging daily from their cocoons and I think the magic might even be doubled. What that all comes down to is it's a truly amazing and gorgeous space to explore, make pictures, and celebrate a wedding. Especially Zona and Eric's wedding. These two were so easy to be around, it's as if we had been friends for a very long time. I always think the personalities of the couple sets the vibe for the wedding, and Zona and Eric, who were super relaxed and conscientious of their guests, set a great mood for their wedding. Photographing their celebration was such a treat for us! Thanks so much for having us and we wish you so much laughter and love!

Before each engagement session, we go through a planning process with our couples to make sure we're going to come away with images that reflect them. There is a lot of back and forth between us to get the locations, outfits, all those details just right. Adm and I pride ourselves on how well we plan so that we can do a good job responding to all the little things that can go wrong on engagement shoots and even wedding days.
On the day of Tracy and Frank's engagement, our plan had to compete with reality. The erratic winds of the Marin Headlands caused us to abandon the beach and head back across the bridge. After three stops in the Presidio we were back on track and scurried our way through downtown, chasing the light so we could hit Potrero Hill as the sun went down. We may have broken some traffic laws, but as you can see above, we made it just in time. Tracy and Frank are getting married this summer and if the care and thoughtfulness that went into their engagement session is any indication of the wedding to come, I know we're in for a real treat!
One of the maybe slightly odd things that we photographers do is go on photo walks. Yep, we just wander around town taking pictures of things. My favorite part of Karen and Uday's engagement session was walking around the Design District of San Francisco and finding cool buildings and fun textures for their portraits. An engagement photo walk! Karen and Uday wanted a San Francisco engagement session since they're getting married in the East Bay this January, and when they mentioned the Design District, I knew that this was going to be something a little extra special. We also made stops at Sutro Baths, Potrero Hill, Farley's and SOMA StrEAT Food Park.
